Jeff Buckley

A vocal dynamo.

Like an angel,  Jeff Buckley was a gift the world was given for only short time. Ironically, he’s best known for his rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. When Buckley sings,  your spirit lightens.

The tragedy of Jeff Buckley is that he died in ’97 at the age of 31. Just as he was coming into his prime. It wasn’t the typical demise of a star, however, it was an accidental drowning in a Memphis river.

Luckily we’ve got lots of beautiful tracks to remember him by. My personal favorite is Lover You Should Have Come Over, there’s one part that grips my soul ever time I hear it:

“It’s never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder. It’s never over, all my riches for her smile when I step so soft against her. It’s never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter. It’s never over, she is a tear that hangs inside my soul forever.”

That last line especially, almost brings me to tears. It’s so beautiful, such a majestic song, completely enthralling.

Jeff Buckley has been such an amazingly influential artist. If you care to know anything about music, you’ve got to know about him.
